Sultana Association Reunion: Knoxville, TN, April 25 & 26, 2009

The 22nd Sultana Reunion will be held in Knoxville once again at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church on April 25th and 26th.

The weekend will feature vintage Civil War era music performed by several live bands including Nancy Logsdon and Perfect T’ymin, a tour of Civil War sites in the Knoxville area, and a visit to the Sultana monument in the church cemetery. Alan Huffman, author of ”Sultana: Surviving the Civil War, Prison, and the Worst Maritime Disaster in American History”, will also be in attendance to sign and sell copies of this new book.

I found out this year that my great-great grandfather was on the Sultana when it exploded. I have been trying to find out where he was held prisoner and where he might be buried, if at all and where there may be a marker for them.

His name was John Romines, 3rd Calvary, Tennessee Regiment. He was from Sevier County, Tennessee.
