Sultana survivor’s cane

“Unmarked American gold-filled tau-form handle with all over floral chasing and inscribed oval panel on left side that reads Presented/by Sultana Survivors/Toledo, O. April 27th/1892, mounted on an ebonized tapered hardwood shaft with 1.7″ nickel and steel ferrule.”

Fragment of wood from the Sultana

Limited editions of books  by New England based author Edward Rowe Snow, contain fragments of wood supposedly from the Sultana.
Above is a scan of the wood fragment as it appears in a copy of ”Amazing Sea Stories Never Told Before.” An accompanying photo shows a girl identified as Dorothy Caroline Snow, the author’s daughter, standing next to [...]

The Holy Grail for Sultana collectors, Chester Berry’s collection of over 130 individual accounts of the disaster was published in 1892. Contains assorted woodcut images of contributors as well as a listing of passengers on board the Sultana.
